The TREC Education Standards Advisory Committee (ESAC) met April 4. Members of the committee made plans to review the qualifying course outline for property management and discussed how to incorporate education on the broker-agent relationship in existing courses.

Plans Made to Review Qualifying Course Outline for Property Management

The Broker Responsibility Working Group (BRWG) recommended that ESAC open up the qualifying course outline for Property Management for review. TREC General Counsel Vanessa Burgess explained why BRWG made this request and that its goal is ensuring the outline is relevant and to determine whether there is room to enhance consumer protection.

ESAC requested BRWG materials and discussion related to property management, property management complaint statistics, and any data on whether license holders who received complaints had completed the current property management course. It is interested in opening the qualifying course outline in a future meeting.

Expanding Opportunities for Education on Broker-Agent Relationship

ESAC Chair Charles Porter provided an update from the working group about providing more education about expectations for broker-agent relationships. Dr. Porter reported that the working group recommended no new course be created and instead modify existing courses. The committee decided by consensus to strike certain topics from various sections in the Real Estate Brokerage course outline and to add content related to the broker-agent relationship and responsibilities. A revised outline will be discussed at the next ESAC meeting.

Upcoming Meeting Information

The next meeting of the Education Standards Advisory Committee is Thursday, July 7, and the committee will discuss revisions to the Real Estate Brokerage course outline, course completion certificate expiration, and property management complaints and statistical trends.
